Vacancy Description
Family Description and Location:
A warm and informal British couple are seeking an experienced live-in housekeeper to care for their beautiful 7-bedroom holiday home in Norfolk. The property sits within 4 acres overlooking the sea and marshes in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
The family have four grown-up children who visit periodically, mainly for long weekends. This is a relaxed but well-maintained household.
A gardener attends one day per week to manage the grounds. No additional gardening is required, however occasional watering and light care of vegetables may be requested.
The house is approximately 40 minutes from the nearest train station. A driver is essential for this role. A car will be provided for use whilst on duty and may be used with discretion on days off. The car can also be left at the station when required.
The family have two friendly dogs (Havanese and Cockerpoo), so a dog-friendly candidate is essential.
Job Description:
This is a hands-on housekeeping role requiring high standards and flexibility during family visits.
Duties will include:
- Full housekeeping and general cleaning of a 7-bedroom home
- Preparing and refreshing guest bedrooms prior to family arrivals
- Laundry and ironing (rotary iron available; laundry can be sent out during busier periods)
- Laying out breakfast and tidying afterwards
- Light lunch support when required
- Helping tidy after swimming
- Assisting with dinner preparation and clearing (dinner usually around 7pm)
- Family-style food preparation such as soups, salads, pies and lasagne (principals enjoy cooking themselves)
- General day-to-day maintenance and smooth running of the interior
- Occasional watering and light care of vegetable beds
When the family are not in residence, the housekeeper may manage their own timetable and complete duties independently.
Candidate Requirements:
- Previous experience working within a private household
- Proactive, organised and self-motivated
- Driver essential
- Comfortable working independently in a rural location
- Dog-friendly
- Flexible approach, particularly around weekends and bank holidays
- Excellent references
Days of Work, Accommodation and Salary:
- Fixed-term contract: 30th March – 26th July
- Five-day working week
- Two days off per week (flexible depending on family schedule)
- Bank holidays, including Easter, will be working days
- Live-in position
When the family are in residence, the day may typically run from around 8am through to approximately 7pm, with a proper break of several hours during the afternoon. The schedule will vary depending on the family’s plans, as they may go out for lunch or dinner on some days.
When the family are not in residence, the housekeeper may organise their working day independently, ensuring all duties are completed to a high standard.
Accommodation: Private bedsitting room with own entrance and use of a separate kitchen, offering privacy and independence. A well-behaved hypoallergenic dog may be considered.
Salary: £600 per week take home.
This can be arranged on either a self-employed basis (£600 net per week) or PAYE, with the gross salary adjusted accordingly to achieve a similar take-home figure.
