Job Description
This is an exciting and varied position for a motivated horticultural professional who enjoys both garden development and maintenance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain all gardens and grounds to an exceptional standard
- Keep lawns in top condition through mowing, edging, re-seeding, and top dressing (robot mowers in use but require oversight and maintenance)
- Care for greenhouse, orchard, and kitchen garden including herbs and vegetables
- Maintain shrub, herbaceous, and floral borders, ensuring healthy growth and seasonal displays
- Oversee maintenance of garden buildings, tennis court, and paths; coordinate contractors when needed
- Ensure machinery and tools are well-maintained and safe to use
- Shape the ongoing garden development in line with the estate’s master plan
- Support occasional hard landscaping or small garden construction tasks
Candidate Requirements:
- Proven horticultural experience and a strong passion for plants, lawns, and garden design
- Good understanding of turf care, borders, and seasonal planting
- Full UK driving licence and experience with garden machinery
- Strong self-management and communication skills
- Proactive, organised, and confident in planning and implementing garden projects
- Competent in using Outlook, Word, and Excel for reporting and project tracking
- Trustworthy, professional, and able to work both independently and collaboratively
- Basic hard landscaping or repair skills would be beneficial
Days of Work & Salary:
- Monday to Friday, 8am–4pm (40 hours per week; flexibility according to season)
- 28 days’ holiday including public holidays
- Daily role – own vehicle required for commute
- Salary: £30,000–£35,000 gross per annum, depending on experience
- Start date: Negotiable
