The successful candidate will work closely with other estate staff, including the gardener and housekeeper/cook, and provide support to the principals both at home and when travelling.

Job Description:

This is a hands-on role combining estate maintenance, vehicle management, driving duties, and support with country pursuits. The role will suit someone experienced, flexible, and happy to turn their hand to varied tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

Estate & Property Maintenance

  • General property repairs, fault reporting, and arranging/overseeing contractors
  • Grounds work: hedge cutting, fence repairs, vegetation clearance, woodland management, firewood collection
  • Swimming pool, PV panels, wine cellar, and lift checks/maintenance
  • Acting as point of contact for suppliers and alarm/security systems
  • Occasional support with household tasks such as dog walking, feeding chickens, and ground-level window cleaning

Vehicle Management & Driving

  • Driving principals locally and nationally, anticipating routes and journey times
  • Occasional overseas driving and support for special events/trips
  • Managing estate fleet (cars, tractors, horseboxes, Kubota): servicing, MOTs, inspections, fuelling, and ensuring vehicles are always clean and ready for use
  • Driving principals for social and sporting engagements, including evenings/weekends and occasional overnight stays (overtime paid)

Country Pursuits

  • Maintaining and preparing sporting equipment, including shotguns, rifles, and fishing gear
  • Accompanying principals on shooting and fishing trips throughout the season (including overnight stays)
  • Loading at shoots and assisting with dogs when required

General Duties

  • Liaising closely with the principals, PA, and accountant to ensure smooth estate operations
  • Supporting other estate staff when needed and working collaboratively as part of the team

 
Candidate Requirements:

  • Proven experience in estate/property/grounds/woodland maintenance
  • Vehicle and machinery knowledge (tractors, farm equipment desirable)
  • Clean driving licence, confident driving in London and nationally
  • Shotgun certificate essential; firearms and fishing experience desirable
  • Chainsaw licence/qualification preferred (support can be provided)
  • Practical, discreet, organised, and a strong communicator
  • Flexible, adaptable, and a collaborative team player

 
Salary, Benefits & Conditions:

  • £40,000–£45,000 GPA per annum
  • Monday–Friday, 8am–5pm, with flexibility for some evenings, weekends, and overnight stays (overtime paid)
