Vacancy Description
Family Description and Location:
A professional international couple are seeking a junior butler/houseman to work alongside their live-in Butler/House Manager. They have a German Shepherd dog at the property. The home is a large townhouse located a 15-minute walk from Sloane Square and close to the King’s Road. The household is fully staffed when required, and the family travel extensively, resulting in significantly quieter periods and shorter days when they are away.
Job Description:
The household follows a clear daily structure, with breakfast at 7:15am, a dog walk at 7:30am, lunch at 12:30pm, an afternoon dog walk at 4pm, dinner at 6pm and a final dog walk at 7pm. These duties are shared with the House Manager and breaks are taken throughout the day.
Responsibilities include:
- Housekeeping to a high standard
- Laundry, ironing and occasional handwashing
- Polishing silver
- Sweeping and maintaining immediate outdoor areas
- Resetting bedrooms and living spaces throughout the day
- Managing rubbish and recycling
- Taking items to the dry cleaners
- Reporting any issues such as leaks or lighting faults
- Assisting with simple food preparation (House Manager cooks)
- Meeting and greeting guests
- Serving meals and laying the table
- Supporting the family during occasional dinner parties
- Liaising with contractors, tradespeople and managing deliveries
- Covering household duties when the House Manager is travelling with the principals
- Sharing daily dog-walking duties
Candidate Requirements:
This role suits someone who genuinely wishes to make the flat their permanent home. Between the House Manager and the Junior Butler, at least one person must be on-site every day, so time off is coordinated and shared. The family are seeking someone committed, reliable and comfortable living-in full time.
Days of Work, Accommodation and Salary:
- Monday to Friday, with a half day on Saturday when the principals are in residence
- Time off in lieu provided when the family travel
- 7am to 7pm with at least a 2-hour break during the day
- Self-contained basement studio flat with separate entrance, cooking facilities and shower
- £45,000 gross per annum, full contract, holiday entitlement, tax and NI paid
- Immediate start, but the family will wait for the right person
